Interpretation:Darryl: Shania has always promoted strong women, but she's given a mixed message about her feelings toward men. This song muddles the water even more. Obviously, Shania's in a partying mood, but her definition of partying is quite different from others. She makes it real clear that this is a women-only party, singing "The girls need a break-tonight" and "We don't need romance"; but no men apparently doesn't mean no "men"! Shania's planning on taking the Man role herself, declaring, "forget I'm a lady" and wearing "Men's shirts". The most disturbing thing is how far she's willing to take this role. She tells us that she doesn't feel liking having her man tonight. No, tonight she feels like a Woman!Jerry: Absolutely! I'm glad you brought this up! Shania and her obvious lack of desire for men, according to a poll that I just made up, is accountable for approximately 60% of erectile dysfunction in the US alone. Her reference to "Man! I feel like a woman!" is not to express that she herself feels like a woman, but that she desires a woman. This should read the same way as I may say, "Man! I feel like some nachos!" or "Man! I feel like a beer!" She doesn't even necessarily try to mask this. She wants some wild, screaming, no inhibitions, politically incorrect, girl on girl action. It might actually excite me if she weren't so damn militant towards the opposite sex! Darryl: I'm surprised at the lack of outcry at the amount of explicit lyrics in a song that you heard played absolutely everywhere when it first came out. Shania describes some pretty raw and kinky stuff in this song! To list a few lyrics: "scream and shout", "no inhibitions", "doin' it in Style" (We all know what that means!), "get in the action", and "do what I dare". The image of Shania dressed up like a man and having "a little fun" with her freaky female posse while letting "it all hang out" should be enough to work the Moral Majority into a frenzy! Jerry: Indeed! This song make ME feel like becoming a lesbian for god's sake! Think about what it is doing to young impressionable minds! We, as a society, need to keep an eye on this before it becomes an epidemic! I believe it would be not only a good idea, but also our moral duty try to do some more studies of her songs to see what other things she is getting away with.
